Dr. Alan Davenport is an internal medicine physician based in Fort Worth.

Dr. Davenport received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin before attending medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. He also completed his residency at UTMB.

Dr. Davenport was inspired to become a doctor by his father, also a physician. He was drawn to the field of internal medicine because he loves problem solving, as well as the personal lifetime relationships he establishes with patients and colleagues.

When it comes to patient care, Dr. Davenport’s philosophy is straightforward: “Respect the patient. Listen to the patient. Be generous. Be kind.”

His kindness and generosity extend beyond the walls of his medical practice. In 2007, the leadership of Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County, which serves the homeless and those less fortunate, approached Dr. Davenport about establishing and leading a clinic for the residents of the mission. He agreed and in the 15 years since, has built the clinic into a model for pro-bono medical work that is making a transformative difference for hundreds of people each year.

As Medical Director, Dr. Davenport signs off on all patient charts handled by the nurse practitioner and therefore assumes any risk. He’s in the clinic himself at least once a month to see patients with more complex health needs. “It’s important to give back to folks,” Dr. Davenport says. “For doctors, we can do some good with no strings attached.”

Dr. Davenport has been recognized numerous times for his excellent patient services, as well as his devotion to the community. He has been named a “Top Doc” multiple times in both Texas Monthly and Fort Worth, Texas magazines. In recognition of his community service, Dr. Davenport has received the 2005 Truman C. Terrell Award, the 2011 Health Care Hero Award and the 2013 Gold-Headed Cane Award from the Tarrant County Medical Society.
Dr. Davenport has been married for 49 years.

Dr. Davenport and his wife have four children and 13 grandchildren. When he’s not caring for patients or serving the community, he enjoys fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
