Dr. Triwanna Fisher-Wikoff is a board-certified family practice physician in Fort Worth. She received her medical degree from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 2005 and completed her residency in 2008 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
During her residency and undergraduate years, Dr. Fisher found her calling providing care to underprivileged and underserved communities. She traveled to Zambia Africa and Juarez, Mexico on medical mission trips, feeding her humanitarian spirit. In 2005, her JPS colleagues commended her efforts, awarding her with The Erickson Award for Exemplifying Compassion and Humanitarian Efforts in Medicine.
“Family medicine is the one specialty where I felt I could really make a difference in their lives,” Dr. Fisher explains. “There are so many health issues that you can impact as a family physician, from controlling patients’ diabetes to blood pressure to simple preventative care.”
Dr. Fisher said she was drawn to family medicine as a specialty because she can treat patients of all ages and who have a wide array of issues, although she particularly enjoys helping patients with weight management issues because of the tremendous impact controlling ones weight can have on a variety of health issues.
“The patients in the public health system tend to be more challenging, but I find it rewarding despite all the barriers I love to help my patients find ways to better manage their health,” she said.
In her spare time, Dr. Fisher enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling internationally, and volunteering for her church.
