Facial Plastic Surgery Services
There are two types of plastic surgery: reconstructive and cosmetic. Reconstructive surgery is generally a medical necessity, like when someone’s face has been disfigured due to an auto collision or other trauma.
Cosmetic surgery is not medically necessary; it is an elective procedure and is done when the patient is seeking to alter or improve a physical characteristic of their body.
Surgeries performed by facial plastic surgeons include maxillofacial surgery, which is the repair of the jaw, cheekbones, and other parts of the face in the event of a traumatic injury; tumor and skin cancer removal; and rhinoplasty (nose job).
Physicians in this specialty area can also help their patients with non-surgical cosmetic procedures, such as botulinum injections, fillers, chemical peels and laser resurfacing.
